The Petra Marriott Hotel is a stunning 5-star hotel in the desert of Jordan just a few steps from one of the new 7 wonders of the world – The Lost City of Petra. I stayed at the Petra Marriott for 1 night after my day at Petra, before my excursion to Wadi Rum desert. My time at the hotel was brief but it was a pleasurable experience from the time I arrived. We booked the hotel through out tour group, Desert Eco Tours. Being not familiar with the area, or the country for that matter, we wanted to stay at an American chain. The Marriott was the one of the lodging upgrads offered. I’ve been staying at Marriott hotels my entire life so choosing them was a no-brainer.
Location
From the entrance of the Lost City of Petra, the hotel is a short 5K drive through the city of Wadi Mousa. I’d describe it as being on the outskirts of the city, up in the hills.
Being in the hills, the views were spectacular. And being outside the city means quiet nights and a bit of seclusion. After a long day with tons of tourists, this was a nice welcome.
Service
As with everywhere in Jordan, the service was absolutely fantastic. The staff literally catered to our every needs and they did so in a genuine, polite manner. But also like everywhere else in Jordan, tips are very much expected. Not mandatory but expected. The people live off the tips but they also work hard for them.
Rooms
Clean, modern and comfy. My stay at the hotel was under 24 hours. Since we were only in the area for 1 night, a basic room was all we needed.
After a long day walking around Petra in 100 degrees heat, I wanted 5 things: shower, pool, food, wine, bed.
The bed was extremely comfortable or I was extremely tired. Probably a little bit of both!
Hotel Grounds
Man what a view! You can say that pretty much from every point on the property. I thought I would be over desert views…nope!
We sat outside with a glass of wine from the bar and watched the sunset. It was the perfect ending to a magical day exploring one of the new 7 wonders of the world.
Pool
Beautiful!
But unfortunately we arrived at the hotel too late to really enjoy the pool. The sun was setting and the pool was not heated. At least it wasn’t when we were there. Still, we enjoyed a quick dip.
The outside bar was open so a couple glasses of wine around the pool was perfect. We literally had the place to ourselves, not another guest in sight.
Bedouin Tent
Just a short walk up the hill from the pool is their Bedouin tent. You can sit and smoke hooka or even has a traditional Bedouin dinner in there. The dinner needs to be arranged hours ahead of time. Since our dinner was included with our tour package, we ate at the hotel buffet however next time I would love to partake.
Notice I said ‘next time’? Like Petra itself, the Petra Marriott Hotel is AMAZING. Since I do plan on visiting Petra again, I hope to once again stay at the Petra Marriott.

It looks like this is a nice Marriott location! I know in the US, Marriott just introduced a pretty bad cancellation policy requiring three days notice. Be mindful of this with reservation. The grounds at this Marriott were beautiful. The hotel sure offers some impressive views. It is too bad you were unable to enjoy the pool. I think my favorite pic was your sunset one!
Ahhhh we might be heading to Petra in January!!! We just started doing research for our trip and am so excited to have found your review! Definitely bookmarking this, as it is always nice to hear reviews from real people. Thank you!!!
GO! If you can, go. Petra is amazing. I highly recommend the tour company, Desert Eco Tours (desertecotours.com). My post about my trip is here https://tweeteattravel.com/petra-wadi-rum-jordan-desert-eco-tours/ if you’re interested.
This might be one of the most unique Marriotts in the world! It’s definitely one of my favorite chains, one which I have hundreds of thousands points with. Jordan is actually super high on my list of places to visit, I’m glad to see that Marriott is so close to the sites. Now I’m going to go read your Petra blog!
Because it’s a big international chain hotel, I wouldn’t expect it to be anything less. When I stayed in Petra, I stayed at a local hotel. I agree with you that after visiting Petra, all you want to do is eat, sleep, and shower. There was also a Turkish bath at the hotel I stayed which really helped get the dirt off after the visit!
Ooh that Turkish bath sounds perfect! I had a layer of dust on me at the end of the day haha!
Great Post! So informative, and it makes going to Jordan seem pretty easy and safe. Thanks
Oh my gosh. I know the Marriott is a pretty classy hotel chain already, but this made me drool. That view of the sunset? Amazing! And the bed looked incredibly comfortable. What a treat after a great day in the city. ? Can’t wait to visit Petra, and we will definitely keep the hotel in mind if we do (because that pool, though. Wow)!
Those views are incredible I love the mix of the traditional area w the modern hotel! We are big Marriott fans!
The hotel room looks so comfortable! Even though it is in the outskirt, the hotel has a stunning desert view! The bedouin tent is a unique setup for you to experience hooka!
Petra has been in my wishlist for about a year now! I hope to visit Jordan sometime in future!
Good to know that this hotel is just 5km from the Lost City! Having so much comfort, so close to the main attraction is perfect!
Bedouin Tent and a Dinner there sounds just awesome!
I stayed here about 3 years ago …awesome experience. I loved the food here, most of all and the experience in the Bedouin Tents…so much fun in the evenings. Did you also see a belly dance…we did and I loved it!
Wow this is beautiful. I don’t usually stay 5 star when I’m abroad, but this does sound tempting. Those desert views are incredible! The service sounds really good too which is super important.
