Killer Shrimp is a waterfront restaurant in Marina Del Rey. With their signature peel ‘n’ eat shrimp & more, this local favorite is definitely ‘killer’. You know those restaurants that you really like but for some reason you rarely go to? That’s Killer Shrimp for me. I love it and I’ve never had a bad meal there yet for some reason I’ve only been once in the last 6 years. The point is, my visit to Killer Shrimp was long over-due. And as expected, it did not disappoint!
Menu Items
It all started with an Instagram post. My sister forwarded me a picture from Instagram of crab claws. As soon as I saw it we made plans for lunch. These killer crab claws were as good as they looked on IG!
Snow crab served with lemon, butter, and rosemary and their signature spice blend. Definitely worth getting your hands dirty for.
Tomato soup was on special so I decided to try a bowl. It was great! Almost as good as mine haha. Honestly, the best part of the soup is that it was served with a stick of grilled cheese on the side. It was not only cute but tasted great! I seriously wanted a full grilled cheese sandwich afterwards.
We ordered the crab fries thinking it would be the perfect starter. OMG. The crab fries were almost too good. Meaning, I knew I really wanted to order a shrimp bowl next but the fries were enormous. If we finished them all, we’d be stuffed. It was hard not to finish them. The fries were cooked perfectly and the crab was fresh and nicely seasoned. And of course everything is better with cheese on top.
Signature Dish
With a name like Killer Shrimp it’s pretty easy to guess what their signature dish is. It’s actually simple – peel ‘n’ eat shrimp served in their homemade spicy broth served with French bread. I like to get my hands dirty so peeling the shrimp doesn’t bother me but if it isn’t your thing, you can order it ‘shelled’ with the shells already taken off. I usually order the Killer Shrimp “Original”.
BUT to switch things up a bit, this visit I ordered Killer Shrimp & Lobster (shelled) which is the usual shrimp with an addition of a lobster tail and sweet corn. At the suggestion of my server I also added some pasta. I’m so glad I did!
Since I added pasta, I didn’t use the bread this time. HOWEVER, if I can give you one piece of advice – don’t skip the bread. It’s perfect for dunking in the sauce. The sauce…I could drink it lol. All I know about the sauce is that 1) it’s delicious and 2) it’s made using all natural ingredients that are simmered for 10 hours. It’s the perfect blend of whatever it is with the right amount of spicy.
Killer Cafe
This goes to show how long it’s been since my last visit. Last visit, the Killer Cafe did not exist. It opened in 2012 and I believe my last visit was around 2011. There are two things about Killer Cafe that I love – it’s open 24-hours AND it has a full bar. I didn’t eat anything, I just took a quick look – waterfront diner. Can’t beat that. Now that Killer Shrimp is back on my radar, I know I’ll be back soon. I’m already thinking about one of those shrimp bowls.

I love love love seafood! The snow crab looks downright amazing. Great review, I’ll have to check this place out.
OMGoodness, I LOVE Killer Shrimp but haven’t been in YEARS! My BFF used to work there back in the day and it was a favorite. What I don’t remember is all that other goodness on the menu! I don’t recall crab and lobster…it looks like they’ve expanded way past the shrimp I’m familiar with. Thanks so much for bringing this back to the ol’ memory. I’ll have to make this part of the summer plan!
I haven’t been there, but the first thing we always do is look for a great seafood restaurant when we travel. I have added Killer Shrimp to the top of our list! Thanks for the recommendation!
I am not a shrimp fan myself, actually any seafood, but my husband LOVES seafood! He would go crazy for this menu.. I’d love to take him here someday.

Living along the Gulf of Mexico, fresh seafood is always a must! When people talk about having seafood from the chains, I’m like no way, why would you even go there, when we live where we do?! This place looks like it serves some great dishes!
