Captain Kidd’s Fish Market serves up some of the best and freshest seafood in the South Bay. Order your food and eat oceanside at this local favorite.
Location
As someone who lives on the west side of Los Angeles, getting to the South Bay in general isn’t convenient. That’s probably why I don’t go too often:-) It took me almost an hour to get there but it’s LA so I kind of expected that. I also had my foodie buddy in tow (aka my sister) so it wasn’t that bad. I pulled up to a pleasant surprise….um can we say ocean view?!?! Believe me, the hour drive meant nothing as soon as I was sitting outside with my bucket of shrimp with the ocean breeze in my hair.
Fish Market
I was like a kid in a candy store! Live crab, lobster, mussels, shrimp, etc. You name it, they got it.
All fresh.
The market has a hot counter as well that serves gumbo, chowder, bisque, cioppino, etc.
Oysters! I’m a sucker for oysters. As soon as I saw them in the market I knew I was getting a half dozen.
Several different types of crab are available. You can even pick your own live crab.
Take it home or they’ll cook it there for you!
The best part in my opinion was the fish selection. For $4.99, you pick your fish from the market and they will grill it, saute it or deep fry it for you. And it comes with 2 sides. No denying it’s a great deal.
Restaurant
Why take it home? Sit outside and enjoy the fresh air!
You order your food at the front, grab it and get a seat. I visited on a Friday afternoon for lunch and had no problem finding a table.
All of our food came very quickly. Which is good cause we were ready to dig in!
These oysters were HUGE. I probably only needed 3.
Seafood Cioppino…OMG. It’s almost as good as mine hahaha:-)
If I’m ever in the South Bay I will absolutely visit Captain Kidd’s Fish Market again The seafood was some of the freshest I’ve ever had and the staff was super friendly. Win-win.

This looks so delicious! Can you believe I’m 30 years old and have never had an oyster?!
The food looks good! I love the oysters (and seafood in general). The place looks like a great hangout.
I love seafood and this looks like one of those little-known or only locally-known places that is delicious. Those are some huge oysters!!
Gosh! This looks good, it’s making me hungry, could eat seafood all day every day
I dont eat sea food but the place looks great for any one who loves it. Great review.
This all look delicious but I am not that into sea food. I like prawns but fried. I do not like raw food at all, I think it has something to do with the fact that I grew up in a continental country, far from the sea.
Thanks for sharing, looks like the food was amazing. I love seafood.
SEA FOOD! I go crazy for good sea food. I used to live right on the ocean and eat so much amazing lobster and scallops. I miss it, it really doesn’t taste the same when it’s been in a store or shipped inland.
This place looks amazing! I love all kinds of seafood especially clams & scallops.
Oh my gosh this looks like heaven!! I adore seafood so this looks like my kinda place!
Wow the oysters were so fresh! I’m really into seafood so Captain Kidd’s Fish Market is on my list now!
That looks so tasty. Love that you can mix and match your favorite dishes.
NOW I have a reason to visit the South Bay!
